Annual Conference 2017
The SRUK Annual Conference has always been a highlight of the year, bringing together the Scleroderma and Raynaud's community from across the UK to receive the latest information from top specialists on medical and research advancements.
We used your feedback from 2016 to design an event that had you at the very heart of it and this year the programme included a range of topics you wanted to hear about in order to support you in managing your conditions. Below are some of the comments and feedback from the 2017 conference:
"A huge amount of information was shared on the day, it was good to meet other people with the conditions" - Angela
"Excellent speakers, a huge increase in the way forward with research and joining together of other groups to form RAIRDA" - Hilda
"It's easier to understand the conditions when you attend an event like this. The group sessions went into detail I wasn't aware of so feel very educated and informed" - Alan
"Thank you for an excellent day" - Pauline
"A great opportunity to hear about the latest research, to meet doctors and researchers working on scleroderma, as well as the opportunity to network, meet and talk to others with the conditions" - Isobel
"Couldn't fault anything" - Debra
"The whole thing was informative and interesting" - Rachel
"Thank you so much. It was amazing" - Elizabeth
"Meeting other people with the same problems, as a support to my wife who has the condition, we all exchanged ideas" - Stuart
"As I don't attend a specialist centre (only a general Rheumatology clinic) it was an opportunity to learn more and network with others with the condition" - Julia
This year we were delighted to host internationally renowned speakers such as Professor Chris Denton, Professor Ariane Herrick, Peter Lanyon and Dr. John Pauling. We had a series of engaging talks throughout the day about the conditions, current and innovative treatments available, medical and research advancements and interactive self-management sessions.
There was a series of talks on early diagnosis of scleroderma, new treatments in Raynaud's, how to care for your skin, and during the lunch break you could explore and trial a range of practical sessions in skincare, podiatry and pharmacy. Keith Hunt MBE, massage therapist joined us again along with a specialist nurse and other exhibitors to provide you with hints, tips and useful products.
You told us that building a network of support with people that share similar experiences is really beneficial, so we made sure you had the opportunity to do just that. We hosted a meet and greet drinks evening on Friday and networking sessions throughout the day. We also provided a Facebook group to help you with car sharing.
At SRUK we believe everyone should have access to specialist information and the opportunity to build a support network, so each year we invest in conference to provide this.
If you would like to help us cover conference costs to enable further investment in research then you may want to consider donating.
